AMHERST, Mass. — This one's going to hurt.

The University of New Hampshire hockey team led 3-0 in the second period of the first game of its Hockey East quarterfinal series at No. 2 UMass Friday night.

It wasn't enough.

The Wildcats got the lead to 4-2 in the third period, but the Minutemen scored twice to tie the game and then won in the second overtime on Mitchell Chaffee's goal at 5:52.

The two meet again tonight at the Mullin Center at 7.

Chris Miller had two goals for UNH (12-14-9), while Brendan van Riemsdyk and Angus Crookshank each added a single tally. Richard Boyd had two assists.

Bobby Trivigno scored twice and added an assist for the Minutemen (27-8), while Cale Makar netted the equalizer goal at 11:28 of the third.

Saint Anselm women stun Bentley

PHILADELPHIA – The seventh-seeded Saint Anselm College women's basketball team stunned the second-seeded and nationally-ranked Falcons from Bentley University on Friday, recording a convincing 59-40 victory in the NCAA Division II East Region Championship Quarterfinals.

Former Oyster River High School star Sara Messler had eight points, five rebounds and three assists in the win.

The Hawks (20-9) held Bentley (28-4) to eight first-half points in building as 27-8 lead. It was just the third win for St. A's over Bentley in their last 50 meetings.

Saint Anselm will take on sixth-seeded Stonehill, who upset third-seeded Jefferson by an 86-77 score earlier in the day, at 5 p.m. on Saturday.


Roger Allen Baseball sign-ups

ROCHESTER — Roger N. Allen Baseball (Rochester Cal Ripken baseball) will hold sign-ups at the Rochester Community Center on Thursdays, March 21 and 28, from 6 to 8 p.m., and Saturdays, March 16 and 23, from 9 a.m. to noon. Registration on Saturday, March 30, will be held from 2 to 4 p.m.

Registration is open to children ages 4-12 and the cutoff for one’s birthday is May 1. A birth certificate is required for all new league players.

Marina's Miles 5K Run/Walk set for April 6

DURHAM – Marina’s Miles 5K Run/Walk will be held at Oyster River High School on April 6 at 10 a.m. with same-day registration beginning at 8:30 a.m. Online pre-registration is $25; race day registration is $30.

For all registrants there are free lunch, free coffee, free chances for door prizes and free massages available. Free T-shirts (first 250 registrants).

Come in PJs or a costume on Race Day and run for just $15.

The event raises money for a college scholarship in memory of Marina Slavin to be awarded to an Oyster River student. Marina was an Oyster River High School graduate, UNH student, N.H. state champion runner and, most importantly, a person who loved people from all walks of life and loved life. She died from a heart infection (her heart was too big) in 2013 at the age of 20.
