NEWINGTON — Pease Air National Guard Base will uncover a new Minuteman statue at the base’s main entrance at 10 a.m. Wednesday. The statue is intended to honor the men and women who are currently serving and have served in the 157th Air Refueling Wing and the New Hampshire National Guard.
Master Sgt. Kevin C. Reiter, the wing’s administration superintendent, said the 6-foot-tall Minuteman is made of resin and covered in bronze, standing on a 4-foot granite base. The Minuteman is holding a plow in one hand and a musket in the other.
Reiter said the statue is something base leaders have wanted for a long time. It came to fruition recently when Command Chief Mass Sgt. Matthew Heiman spearheaded the installation process, taking care of the final details and the purchasing of the statue, which cost $16,000, according to Reiter.
“The Minuteman represents our heritage, the National Guard when we took up arms as citizen soldiers, and we still do that today,” said Reiter.
