ELIOT, Maine — The town will sell the moose head mounted in the Town Hall meeting room. The iconic mount is thought to be from the 1930s or 1940s.
Bids will be received until July 30 at 11 a.m. and will be opened and read aloud at that time. Bids will be considered by the Select Board in August. All bids must be in sealed envelopes and clearly marked as “Moose Bid.” Bids should contain a name, phone number, email and bid price.
The town reserves the right to accept or reject any bid it deems in the best interest of the town. Pictures of the moose head and a bid form can be found at www.eliotme.org.
Town Manager Dana K. Lee in March asked the Select Board if the moose head that has witnessed countless municipal meetings from the back wall of the Town Hall meeting room should be repaired or removed.
“It is kind of molting,” he said, noting the nose of the moose has split open.
Several members of the historical society in attendance at the Select Board’s March meeting said they did not want it.
