HAMPTON FALLS — Two Route 1 motor vehicle crashes within a few hours of each other sent three people to the hospital and caused traffic delays Tuesday, first responders said.
The first crash at approximately 11:45 a.m. involved three cars near Currier's Leather Furniture and Citizens Bank, two people sent to the hospital with minor injuries, Police Chief Robbie Dirsa said.
It was caused by one driver in Route 1 traffic attempting to allow another to enter the roadway from Kensington Road, Dirsa said. A third driver also heading north in the middle lane did not see the car entering from Kensington Road and collided with that vehicle, he said.
The crash was cleared by 12:30 p.m. Dirsa said he was not certain of the severity or nature of the injuries other than they were not life-threatening. Two ambulances responded to the scene to transport two of the drivers, he said.
The second crash took place at 3:44 p.m. involving a motorcycle and a truck, one person sent to the hospital, according to Fire Capt. Lawrence Anderson. He said he did not know the severity of the injuries in that case.
Dirsa said crashes like occurred Tuesday are common when traffic picks up as it has this week with warm weather ahead of the Fourth of July Thursday.
