EXETER — The Racial Unity Team is hosting a poetry and art contest for its upcoming Racial Unity Day in downtown Exeter.
Everyone is invited to submit a poem or visual work of art on the themes of racial unity, racial identity, the challenges of racial inclusiveness and racial (In)Justice.
All contestants must submit their poem or art by July 31. Submissions will be divided into four categories; elementary school, junior high and adult contestants.
Winners will be announced in early September. All submissions will be displayed, and poetry winners will be asked to read their poems aloud during the Racial Unity Day on Sept. 28.
Each first-place winner will receive $100 prize money. Each contestant may submit only one poem or artwork for review. Poems may be 1-2 pages with no more than 50 lines. Artworks may not exceed 36 by 36 inches square.
