Last week at the Lake Winnipesaukee Wine Festival, an event held every year at Church Landing in Meredith, New Hampshire, I was on a mission to find sparkling wines for this week’s wine column. As luck would have it, I saw Kitty Malloy pouring a large selection of Champagne and sparkling wines. Anyone in the wine industry, especially here on the Seacoast, knows Kitty is the person to contact for wine – she happens to be on her 23rd year working with Martignetti Companies as a Fine Wine and Spirits Specialist.

Kitty guided me through the following wines, which are available at the New Hampshire Liquor and Wine Outlets, and select retailers. Both Kitty and I would happily open any of the following bubbles to celebrate Independence Day.

2015 Argyle Vintage Brut

Celebrate with Kitty’s favorite American-made bubbly. This delicious sparkling wine from the Willamette Valley in Oregon offers aromas of fresh red berries and flavors of apple, peach and honey, with a lengthy finish. $24.99

Ayala Brut Majeur

From the estate of Bollinger (a favorite Champagne of secret agent James Bond), the Ayala explodes with an abundance of bubbles. The wine is rich and toasty lending aromas of green apples and pears, leaving an elegant finish on your palate. $54.99

Haute Couture Blanc

Fabulous French bubbles by the Boisset Collection. A Champagne that’s floral and tropical on the nose with flavors of lemon peel, apple blossom and pear. $19.99

Langlois Cremant de Loire Brut

Also owned by Bollinger, this wine from the Loire Valley, is an affordable alternative to French Champagne, made in the "méthod Champenoise" tradition. A round and well-balanced sparkler with aromas and flavors of stone fruit, peach and grapefruit. $18.99

Lanson Rosé Label Brut

Pretty in pink, this stylish bubbly has rose petal aromas and flavors of fresh red and black berries that lead to a long smooth finish. $52.99

Piper-Heidsieck Cuvee Brut

Their signature Cuvee of the house opens up with aromas of pastry dough and vanilla with flavors of apricot, almond and fresh hazelnut. $54.99

Torresella Prosecco

An extremely well-balanced Italian sparkling wine. On the palate, it is soft and delicately harmonic with hints of apples, citrus and nuts. $18.99
