PORTSMOUTH – Something you don’t see every day is a bulldozer falling over, but it happened in Portsmouth on Saturday.
Anyone driving in the area of National Gypsum Company, located on Michael Succi Drive, might have seen the bright yellow bulldozer laying on its side, somewhat like a giant child’s abandoned Tonka truck.
According to its website, National Gypsum, headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, is one of the largest gypsum board producers in the world. The company has 17 operating gypsum board plant locations strategically located near metropolitan areas.
Beth Straeten, Corporate Communications Director, said that on Saturday, June 28, a bulldozer tipped over on its side at National Gypsum’s Portsmouth plant.
“No one was injured during the incident,” said Straeten. “Safety is National Gypsum’s top priority and the Company is investigating how the incident occurred to learn how it may be prevented in the future.”
Straeten said employees are working to excavate the area around the bulldozer so it can be returned to an upright position and inspected for any needed repairs.
Straeten did not have information on the type or weight of the bulldozer, and that can vary widely.
