PORTSMOUTH – The New Hampshire Art Association is putting a call out to artists to join in its annual Wet Paint-Out weekend being held July 26 to 28.

Open to all artists, NHAA members and non-members, the event will be held throughout greater Portsmouth from dawn to dark Friday, July 26, and Saturday, July 27. On Sunday, July 28, artists can paint up until noon.

The event is held rain or shine. It will juried by Grant Drumheller, Professor Emeritus of Art at the University of New Hampshire.

Drumheller has been the recipient of a Fulbright-Hays Grant in Painting to Italy, a Blanche Colman Award, a National Endowment for the Arts Artist’s Fellowship, a New England Foundation for the Arts Grant, and a grant from the Pollock- Krasner Foundation.

Most recently he was a visiting artist at the American Academy in Rome in 2009.

Drumheller has had numerous exhibitions, including one-person shows in Italy, New York and Maine. He will have his third one-person show at Prince Street Gallery in New York, NY, opening Sept. 5. He lives in New Castle, New Hampshire with his wife, Karina.

Participants will submit their best pieces unframed to NHAA’s Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery at 136 State Street by noon on July 28.

Awards will be announced at 2 p.m. on that Sunday, and the public will be invited to purchase your “fresh-off-the-easel masterpieces” on Sunday, July 28, between 2 to 5 p.m.

Cash prizes will be awarded of $400 for first place; $200 for second and $100 for third. There will also be honorable mentions. Award winners will be invited back as guests of NHAA to participate in a members’ plein air exhibit in October at the Robert Lincoln Levy Gallery in Portsmouth.

Weekly plein air meet-ups, led by NHAA member Denise Brown, happen on Tuesday mornings in New Hampshire or southern Maine, but dates and times sometimes vary. Locations are posted on NHAA’s Facebook page and on the website, www.nhartassociation.org.

You do not need to sign up or RSVP and the free meet-ups are open to NHAA members and non-members. This is not a class or critique, just painters practicing their craft in any medium. Beginning artists and photographers welcome to join anytime.
