YORK – What happens when you invite the amazing Bongani Magatyana from Cape Town, South Africa and the incredible Kathy Bullock from Berea, Kentucky to York, Maine?? One hundred singers turn out to sing a concert of South African a cappella plus American gospel. Don't miss this fabulous concert opportunity right here on the Seacoast on Saturday, July 20 at 7 p.m. at the York Community Auditorium in York, Maine, located at 1 Robert Stevens Drive, off of Long Sands Road.
Singers from Voices from the Heart, Con Tutti, the South Church Choir, and community singers from throughout the Greater Seacoast will join together to sing this incredible mix of music.
"After a week-long workshop of rehearsals, they will share all they have learned and put together for you,” says presenter, Joanne Connolly. “I have worked many times with the amazing Kathy Bullock. I am blown away by her talent, her teaching, and her giant love that fuels all she does. Her piano playing is an extension of herself, incredible. She is connected to her own traditions of gospel music and fully connected to the world of classical music at the same time. I have taken many workshops with Kathy, whenever I need to learn some great new music, feel positive about the world again, and just be inspired by being in her presence.”
Last summer, Connolly led 60 singers from Voices from the Heart on a three-week musical humanitarian trip throughout South Africa. In planning for this trip, Connolly met and consulted with the inspiring Bongani Magatyana from Cape Town, South Africa.
“I have been forever inspired by traditional South African music, inspired by its harmonies, its exciting rhythms, and its beautiful stand-alone a cappella–ness," Connolly said. As part of the evening, Voices From The Heart will share a short presentation of their trip, including stories, photos, and videos.
