Independence Day will be celebrated Thursday, July 4, with many communities and organizations planning events on the holiday. The following is a list of local communities and what they are planning:


Fireworks are being held in conjunction with the American Independence Festival Saturday, July 13. The festival is an all-day event, including food, shopping, Revolutionary War reenactments and more. Fireworks at 8:45 p.m. at Swasey Parkway.


Fireworks on Hampton Beach between B and C streets at 9:30 p.m. July 4.


Fireworks will be July 3 from Leary Field on Junkins Avenue at 9:15 p.m.

Pack & Boots 5k and 1-mile survival run July 4, starting line at 105 Marcy St, Portsmouth. Survival run ($30) starts at 8 a.m., 5K ($30) starts at 8:30 a.m. and kids fun run (free) starts at 9:30 a.m. Register at

"An American Celebration" July 3 from 6 to 9 p.m. and July 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. is Strawbery Banke Museum's annual salute to Independence Day. Members, $10. Non-members, $20. Admission July 4 is free. There is a naturalization ceremony at 11 a.m. July 4 followed by an Old-Fashioned Field Day and Bike Parade. As a Blue Star Museum, active duty military and their families are free.
