NEWFIELDS — Voters approved the town’s $1.6 million operating budget at Tuesday’s election.

The proposed budget was $32,525 more than the default budget. The article was approved by a vote of 323-115.

Voters also approved spending $105,320 to enter into a long-term lease/purchase for 26 portable radios for the Fire and Police Department.

They also agreed to spend $3,400 to repair the town dock, $17,000 for an extractor and dryer for the Fire Department and $20,000 to repave the town parking lot.

A $6,000 request to assist the Southeast Land Trust with the construction of a 315-foot long boardwalk in the Piscassic Greenway gained approval by a vote of 294-144.

Voters also approved adding $40,000 to the Fire Truck Capital Reserve Fund and $10,000 for the Fire Department Equipment Capital Reserve Fund.

The only article on the town ballot that failed was $17,900 request for mosquito control. The article was rejected by a vote of 185-257.

All the town positions on the ballot were uncontested. Michael Sununu was re-elected to the Board of Selectmen, Sue McKinnon as town clerk/tax collector, Donald Doane as town treasurer, David Fream as library trustee, Thomas Morgan as Trustee of the Trust Funds and Lynne Sweet as cemetery trustee.

On the school district ballot, all the articles were approved including $2.7 million operating budget.
