RYE ó Nine-year-old Callen Hwang, a student at Rye Elementary School, has qualified for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Associationís National Championships in Colorado, beginning later this month.
Hwang will compete for the national title in snowboarding events from March 29 to April 5 at Copper Mountain in the Rail Jam, Slopestyle and Boardercross competitions. She qualified for the national championship after ranking first in New Hampshire for her age division in each competition.
At Rye Elementary School, she is vice president of Student Council, while also playing travel soccer and lacrosse, and enjoying surfing, playing the violin and arts and crafts.
She has been snowboarding since she was 2Ĺ years old. Her home mountain is Gunstock Mountain in Gilford, where she competes as part of the Gunstock Freestyle Association.
