KITTERY, Maine — Seventeen-year-old Killian Campbell, who splits his time as a student between Traip Academy and the new Sanford Regional Technical Center, recently took first place in technical drafting at the state Skills USA competition.
The competition took place March 7-8 in Bangor. Campbell will now represent Maine in Louisville, Kentucky, for the national competition in June.
Skills USA is an annual competition with students competing in areas ranging from culinary arts to woodworking to automotive repair. One of the competition's goals is to improve the country's future workforce.
Campbell has been focused on a career in engineering. He has previously competed at the state level in Lego robotics, VEX robotics and First robotics. He has also competed twice at world level for Odyssey of the Mind.
Campbell's trip to Kentucky will require some fundraising to cover associated costs.
