Be green: Volunteer at the ReStore

The mission of the Southeast New Hampshire Habitat for Humanity is to develop and uplift families and communities in addition to constructing houses. They offer financial and budgeting counseling as well as home owner seminars. Qualified families are given a hand up (not a hand out). In addition to building safe, decent, affordable homes, SENH Habitat for Humanity operates the ReStore - a retail outlet for building materials and furniture Currently, SENH is seeking volunteers to help customers go green and get great deals while raising money to build homes. SENH Habitat for Humanity ReStore welcomes volunteers to work whatever hours you have available. Typically, they schedule four-hour shifts, but if you can come in for an hour or two (or eight) they will gladly put you to work! SENH operates a flexible work schedule and appreciate the time and commitment of all of their volunteers. They are always looking for volunteers to help with their front counter, sales floor, donation pick-ups, landfill runs, special projects, and home projects. The ReStore is looking for core volunteers. They need volunteers to help out on the sales floor, receiving, merchandise preparation, and other projects. They are also looking for volunteers that have experience in diagnosing and repairing appliances such as dryers, stoves, furnaces and ranges. Provide transportation to senior residents

The mission of the Portsmouth Housing Authority is to be the leader in making quality affordable housing available for low and moderate income members of the community and to accomplish this mission by a fiscally responsible, creative organization committed to excellence. The Authority provides both family and elderly housing, area-wide Section 8 housing, and a youth and family services program. They are currently seeking volunteers who will help play a key role in helping senior residents who do not have access to reliable and/or affordable transportation get to doctors’ appointments, grocery shopping, and other errands around Portsmouth. Key responsibilities will include: driving residents to various places around Portsmouth such as, Families First, Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Market Basket, Fox Run Mall, Portsmouth Senior Center, etc. If you are comfortable working with a diverse population, committed to the safety of residents, and are dependable and punctual, this is the perfect opportunity for you. Many of their senior residents struggle with maintaining their independence when they have limited access to the community, help them change this. As a volunteer you will help someone remain in their own home and continue to live independently, as well as meet new people and help build community in Portsmouth. Ideally, they would like a weekly commitment for a minimum of two months. However they are flexible and open to various time commitments, including monthly volunteering. The mission of Seacoast Pathways is to support adults living with mental illness on their paths to recovery through the work-ordered day. Seacoast Pathways is a restorative environment for members to come together for health, wellness, employment, fellowship and education. Their goal is to create a high quality of life for all members and the ultimate elimination of stigma against those with mental illness. Seacoast Pathways is currently looking for a mature, dependable volunteer to work in the kitchen unit and help members prepare and serve simple lunch on MWF from approx. 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The volunteer must be able to provide their own transportation, a background check and a reference.
