EXETER Several hours after asking residents to restrict water usage and reduce sewer production, town officials announced Sunday night that the sewer forcemain was repaired, and sewer flow has resumed to the wastewater treatment facility.

Emergency water use restrictions were lifted, according to a statement released by the town at 9:15 p.m. Sunday.

At 3 p.m., the town announced that the sewer forcemain had broken. All untreated sewer flow had been diverted to the combined sewer overflow at Clemson Pond and ultimately discharged to the Squamscott River. The town said there was not a public health hazard.
