Jan. 11 -- To the Editor:

In Tom Pearson’s Jan. 11 letter, he reasons that cocaine and heroin crossing the border with Mexico has contributed to the deaths of an estimated 72,000 US citizens in 2017. I believe the greed and dishonesty of US drug companies like Pharma and the corruption of our Federal agencies and our politicians is a far more important cause of those deaths. “American Overdose: The Opioid Tragedy in Three Acts” by Chris McGreal explains it clearly. If we are going to mention the catastrophe that opioids has caused in our country, please let’s at least be accurate about the cause.
