To the Editor:
The name “Take Back Ogunquit” implies that someone owned it, lost it, and is now determined to own it once again. The voters own Ogunquit. Not any single group. We voted for Ms. Mooney, Mr. Waite, and Mr. Winn in the last election...the very three people who are now facing a recall vote.
In one of Take Back Ogunquit’s first postings on Oct. 12, 2018 they shared a post that read: “First we need to get rid of this Town Manager. The only way to do that is change the Board of Selectmen.” Our Town Manager, Pat Finnigan, was confirmed with a 5-0 vote from the current Select Board and has arduously tried to bring Ogunquit out of the quagmire in which we had fallen under the last town manager and his select board. Do we really want to go back there?
I maintain that the three Select Board members have done absolutely nothing to warrant this recall. They have opened up meetings to encourage public input and the people have responded with new ideas and processes that move us forward. There are no viable reasons to dismiss them and no legal reason to do so.
I am personally appalled, discouraged, and saddened by the division this has brought to our peaceful seaside village. Our reputation has been tarnished by this fiasco. It must end.
As our recently elected governor of Maine stated: “We are all in this together.”
I ask you to please think about protecting your vote that brought us these Select Board members by supporting a “no” vote on all three recalls.
