The Kennebunk High School boys basketball team bounced back from its first loss of the season by defeating Marshwood for the second time this season.
The Rams earned a 60-48 victory over the visiting Hawks on Monday evening to improve to 8-1 on the season.
Max Murray had a game-high 21 points for Kennebunk and Cam Lovejoy added 17 to get the Rams back in the win column following last Friday’s 67-63 loss to York.
Kennebunk had a 20-19 over the Wildcats after one quarter but York pulled ahead for a 35-30 advantage at the half.
York stretched its lead to 59-45 as the teams entered the final period of play before the Rams rallied with a 15-0 run to re-take the lead at 60-59 with just under two minutes to go.
A pair of baskets by Max Murray, a 3-pointer by Kyle Pasieniuk and back-to-back 3s from Cam Lovejoy gave the hosts a slim one-point cushion with 1:51 remaining on the clock. The Wildcats answered with key baskets from Will MacDonald and Brady Cummins and 4-for-4 free throw shooting by MacDonald to outlast the Rams in a well-played contest.
MacDonald was the game’s high scorer with 36.
Lovejoy scored 18 for the Rams, Murray added 17 and Pasieniuk chipped in with 12.
The Kennebunk High girls basketball team is now 7-2 on the season following last Friday’s 39-34 loss at York and Monday’s 54-46 home victory over Marshwood.
Emily Archibald led Kennebunk with 16 points followed by Jessica Dupler with 15 and Alaina Schatzabel with 11.
The Wells High boys team 3-3 following last week’s 52-49 overtime loss to Yarmouth.
The Clippers hit a 3 in the closing seconds of regulation to force an extra period where they outscored the Warriors by a 10-7 margin.
Tyler Bridge led Wells with 22 points.
The Wells High School girls are 4-2 after last week’s 44-32 loss at Yarmouth.
Franny Ramsdell was high scorer for the Warriors with 13 points.
