SEABROOK — Supporters of a Seacoast family will hold a comedy night benefit on Jan. 25 at Seabrook’s Church of Christ to help the family of a 13-year-old, who is fighting for her young life against a life-threatening disease.
Salisbury resident and Seabrook Church of Christ member Hailey Stone and her family learned the youth was suffering from leukemia after she experienced random leg pains, according to family friend Jordan Piper. The road’s been rough for the Triton Middle School student, Piper said, since various chemotherapy treatments tried by her doctors caused her to go into anaphylactic shock and anti-nausea medications haven’t worked.
Hailey travels to Boston for treatments once a week with her mother by her side. Hailey is one of four children, with two sisters and a younger brother. Her parents, Jaclyn and Allen, are doing their best, Piper said, but in cases like this, expenses pile up and put a financial burden on the family.
That’s why friends and parishioners at Church of Christ decided to help. Piper, a comedy fan, approached Dave Russo to see if the comedian would lend a hand and put together a benefit to raise money for Hailey and her family.
“I produce a show at Fulchino Vineyards in Hollis, New Hampshire that Jordan comes to,” Russo said. “After a show, Jordan approached me and told me about Hailey and asked if I’d do the benefit. I’m happy to help.”
Russo is a well known and popular comic in the region with a considerable following, according to Darlene Sweeney, of Newburyport casting agency WSM Talent.
“He’s one of the funniest guys around,” said Sweeney, who wasn’t surprised Russo signed on for the benefit. “He’s a really great guy.”
Russo’s planning a fun show for Hailey. He’ll be performing, along with comedienne Carolyn Plummer and some impressive out-of-town talent.
“I’m also bringing in Joe Trammel as a special guest,” Russo said. “He’s a two-time ‘Entertainer of the Year” in Las Vegas. It should be a great show.”
The night of laughter begins at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 25 at Seabrook’s Church of Christ, located at 867 Lafayette Road (Route 1). The doors open at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and can be purchased online at https://m.bpt.me/event/3958429.
Proceeds will go to Hailey Stone and her family, Piper said.
For those who aren’t able to attend the show, but who still want to help, can make contributions through a GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/support-for-hailey.
