PORTSMOUTH Join opera expert and cultural historian Dennis Neil Kleinman on Saturday, Jan. 12, at 11:30 a.m. when Opera Connection presents the infamous backstage potboiler "Adriana Lecouvreur" by Francesco Cilea.

It tells of a celebrated 18th century actress, Adriana, who vies with a murderous noblewoman for the love of a prince. The discussion will include a mash-up of rococo elegance and verismo mayhem, analyze Cilea's irresistibly melodic score, and show scenes from a classic production starring the legendary Joan Sutherland.

The Opera Connection takes place at the Music Hall Loft, 131 Congress St., Portsmouth, just prior to the Met@The Music Hall broadcast at 1 p.m. at theater across the street.

Tickets are $14 and include light breakfast fare. For more information and to purchase tickets online, go to www.themusichall.org/events.
