PORTSMOUTH — For the final days before Christmas shoppers should remember the city is offering free on-street parking through Christmas day. Time limits, which vary throughout the downtown, remain in effect and violations will be ticketed, according to the city.

The City Council typically approves free downtown parking at meters for anywhere from a week to two weeks each December to help attract the shopping public and in support of downtown businesses.

Parking in the High-Hanover Parking Garage, which does not have time limits, remains at a rate of $1.50 per hour. The city’s new Foundry Place, which also does not have time limits, remains at $1 per hour. Both offer free parking on Sundays for Portsmouth residents.
