Christmas Day is just around the corner. If you are like me, you save the most important gifts for last.

For the wine lovers on your list, I suggest giving them a special bottle of red wine (after all, it is Christmas), one that can be enjoyed over the holidays or set aside for a special occasion or added to the wine cellar.

The following list of wines, that fit a variety of budgets, are ones that I tasted this past year and found them to be extra special.

2015 Joseph Phelps Insignia, Napa Valley

A great example of a wine with “an iron fist in a velvet glove” made from the finest estate Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. A rich red with vanilla aromas and flavors of black fruit. $250

Scents of truffle and pepper on the nose with dark cherry flavors and a smooth velvety finish. $60

2014 Galil Mountain Winery Yiron

2015 Luce Lucente

From the prestigious area of Montalcino in Tuscany, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot make this a soft and subtle Super Tuscan with a fresh fruit finish. $28

2010 Bodegas LAN Gran Riserva Rioja

A traditional Spanish wine made from 90 percent Tempranillo and 10 percent Mazuelo grapes produce an aromatic lovely wine with red fruit flavors and a silky mouthfeel. $22
