PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — A Maine man was indicted for two charges alleging he volunteered with a youth pipe and drum band in New Hampshire while failing to disclose he was a sex offender.
According to county records released Tuesday, Joseph G. Diment, 67, of 12 Crescent Lane, Wells, was indicted for two counts of prohibition from child care services of persons convicted of certain offenses. The Rockingham County Superior Court indictments allege Diment volunteered with the children's music group between September 2016 and April 2017.
Police in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, announced Diment's arrest in October 2017, when it was alleged he was required to complete a background check with the youth organization. When he failed to comply, it was brought to the attention of Portsmouth police.
According to the Maine Sex Offender Registry, Diment is listed as a lifetime registrant. It lists two convictions for unlawful sexual contact.
