PORTSMOUTH — The 14th annual Friends of the South End Fairy House Tour is Sept. 22-23.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days rain or shine.
The Portsmouth Fairy House Tour is the world’s largest fairy house tour and more than 250 fairy houses will be on display for two days on the grounds of Prescott Park, the Gov. John Langdon House and Strawbery Banke Museum. Tracy Kane, the Fairy Houses Series author and illustrator, will be on hand both days to greet ticket holders and sign autographs. The event will also feature performances by the Southern New Hampshire Dance Theater and the NH Theatre Project.
In addition to the fairy houses built by students, families and community organizations the Fairy House Tour features a judged competition among 10 select houses built by creative professionals. This year’s competitors include Rhiana Couto, Bobby Dyer, Nikki Lewis and the staff of Outdoor Pride of Rye, Nate Piper/The Boatshop at Strawbery Banke, Julie Porter, Rebecca Romanosky of Arts in Reach, Joan Stanley, and Deb Wheeler-Bean. This year’s competition will be judged by Kane, Portsmouth’s Assistant Mayor Cliff Lazenby and Jane Murphy, Seacoast Media Group editor of EDGE Magazine and lifestyle/arts and entertainment editor.
“The proceeds of this long standing collaborative community event benefit the participating nonprofit partners, including the Portsmouth Elementary Schools,” said Caroline Piper, Fairy House Tour coordinator. “Since the Fairy House Tour began, FOSE has reinvested more than $300,000 in these important South End organizations and in the Portsmouth community as a whole, which really amplifies the magic of this special all-ages event.”
