DOVER –The Art Center will host an Artist’s Reception for Aaron Stanley’s exhibit "Gravitas" on Friday, June 15 from 6 to 9 p.m.
"Gravitas" is an exhibit of kinetic art demonstrating physical principles of movement, balance, color, light and shadow. The exhibit will be on display through June 29.
“It can be hard to find balance. First of all, there are different types of balance – physical balance, visual balance, spacial balance …,” Stanley said. His comments speak to the deceptive nature of his art. What appears simple at the beginning becomes increasingly complex the further one looks. Bits of metal or natural elements highlight the craftsmanship of the builder.
Exquisitely balanced elements of copper, aluminum, and found objects move in a slow-motion dance, guided by the slightest breeze. And this dance is revealed on the walls behind the sculpture as shadows cast from halogen lighting, reminiscent of dancers behind a screen.
In addition to Stanley's kinetic art, his unique sculptures and paintings will also be on display.
The reception is free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. The Art Center is located in the 1 Washington Street Mill, 1 Washington St., Suite 106, Dover.
