STRATHAM — State Rep. Debra Altschiller announced Tuesday that she will be running for a second term representing the town of Stratham in the state House.

In her first term, Altschiller has had success in having three pieces of legislation she co-sponsored and advocated for become law. She has served on the Transportation Committee and currently serves on the Judiciary Committee in the House. She is a member of the Children’s Caucus, Gun Violence Prevention Caucus and Economic Justice Caucus.

Altschiller is the Community Liaison for New Hampshire’s largest violence prevention and crisis support center serving people impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence and stalking. She has worked in this field since 2012 advocating for victims of crime.

In this capacity, she was appointed by the governor to be a member of the Oversight Commission on Children’s Services. She brings the perspective of the crisis centers to the table, giving voice to the voiceless. She was one of the three members of this committee to vet the candidates for the Office of the Child Advocate, a position now held by Dr. Moira O’Neil.

Altschiller is an active member of the New Hampshire Human Trafficking Collaborative Task Force. She provides training for medical professionals and law enforcement in identifying victims of human trafficking and providing services.

Altschiller has been a member of the Exeter Area General Federation of Women’s Clubs for almost 15 years, is going into her 9th year as a volunteer for the Stratham Fair, spent 13 years as a PTO and school volunteer for her children’ classrooms at the Stratham Memorial School and the Cooperative Middle School.

She is an active volunteer for Planned Parenthood, a member of the Seacoast Chapter of Moms Demand Action and a Girl Scouts of America Mentor. Altschiller is a 2016 graduate of Leadership Seacoast.

Altschiller has lived in Stratham since 2004 with Howard, her husband of 25 years, and has three adult children: Marina, Connell and Brady and a spunky Jack Russell named Chewbacca.
