HAMPTON — Smuttynose Brewing Company will host the Gather to End Hunger Festival, or Gather Fest, in August.

Event proceeds will benefit Gather, the former Seacoast Family Food Pantry.

“We are grateful to Smuttynose for hosting this fantastic community event,” said Deb Anthony, Gather’s executive director. "We hope this festival will help us reach out to a new group of people that may not know about Gather and our mission to end hunger in the Seacoast."

Because music festivals foster face-to-face connections and community they can be a natural fit for a cause to generate more interest and find potential supporters, Anthony said.

The festival will bring together regional musicians The Nth Power, Rustic Overtones and Truffle. Along with food offerings from a variety of local food trucks, Smuttynose Beer will be on tap. The family-friendly event will feature a Kids Zone area sponsored by Seacoast United and including Seacoast United coaches to run games and activities for kids of all ages. A Frisbee-golf course and lawn games round out the activities.

“As a longtime supporter of Gather, Smuttynose is pleased to host this event and provide Gather with the platform to educate more of our community members about hunger in the Seacoast and the programs they offer to address it,” said Peter Egelston of Smuttynose Brewing Company.

Smuttynose Brewing Company, Bright & Lyon, Boldwerks Creative, 3S Artspace, Seacoast United Soccer Club and local supporters of Gather rallied together to make the event a reality.

“I'm so thrilled to have been able to help facilitate bringing a bit of just that to this first installment of what I hope becomes a pillar annual event,” said Chris Hislop of Boldwerks.

Denise Wheeler of Portsmouth is a champion of the arts in the Seacoast, and was instrumental in bringing this event together. “I’ve always been a believer in the power of music as a force to strengthen communities, and ever since Joanne Francis and Peter Egelston opened the new Smuttynose facility at Towle Farm in Hampton, I’ve dreamed of seeing a concert on the fields there,” Wheeler said.

The Gather to End Hunger Festival will be held Aug. 27 from noon to 7 p.m. at Smuttynose, 105 Towle Farm Road. For tickets, visit www.gathertoendhunger.eventbrite.com or call Gather at 436-0641.
